We’re proud to share that Maria da Graça Vieira Duque Carreira Monteiro, research assistant at Iscte and a partner to the SmartVitiNet project, presented a poster during the GreenWine International Scientific Congress, held on May 19–20 in Verona, Italy.
Organised by the Dipartimento di Biotecnologie – Università di Verona, in collaboration with Vinidea, the GreenWine Congress is a forum that brings together specialists from viticulture, oenology, engineering, economics, and social sciences. It’s where academic research meets real-world agricultural innovation—making it a perfect match for the mission of SmartVitiNet.
Maria’s poster presentation showcased key outcomes from the SmartVitiNet project and introduced the Competence Centre for Precision Viticulture — a European hub designed to support winemakers, agronomists, researchers, and agri-tech professionals with:
🌍 Europe-wide collaboration opportunities
📚 Free training modules and practical guides
🛰️ Smart farming tools and decision-support resources
The Congress also tackled some of the most urgent challenges facing the wine sector today, including:
Climate Change Resilience: Managing droughts, heatwaves, and microbial threats
Low-Input & Green Production: Reducing pesticide use, energy consumption, and waste
Sustainable Business Models: Embracing circular economy and CSR in the wine industry
Participating in such a diverse and forward-thinking environment allowed the SmartVitiNet project to connect with like-minded researchers and innovators, reinforcing our commitment to building a more sustainable and competitive European wine sector.
