December 2024 - Welcome to the 4th SmartVitiNet Newsletter!
Greetings from the SmartVitiNet Project!🎄
As the holiday season approaches, we want to extend our warmest wishes to our network and share the project updates in this Newsletter!
This edition is extra special for two reasons: firstly, it is the last newsletter of 2024, and secondly, we are entering the final year of the project. In this final year, the team behind SmartVitiNet will focus on developing the Competence Centre, the Training Portal, and the pilots in the project partners' vineyards. Let’s dive in!
If you missed the previous Newsletters, you can find them on the project website: https://www.smartvitinet.eu/news
The Competence Centre for Precision Viticulture is Coming Soon!
Aiming to help the creation of smart viticulture ecosystems in Europe through excellence, innovation and knowledge sharing, the SmartVitiNet project is currently developing the Competence Centre for Precision Viticulture.
“We aim to unlock the potential of smart viticulture using drones across European countries to address challenges such as pesticide management and water stress. Beyond providing comprehensive resources on these topics, we will facilitate connections between producers, technology providers, and viticulture consultants. This collaboration will optimise drone deployment, maximise their benefits, and ultimately contribute to the sustainability and growth of viticulture economies.”
-Sofia Samoili, Researcher from Iscte - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa
What is the Competence Centre?
It is a shared facility that provides leadership, good practices, research, support and, most of all, training for a focus area, bringing together hardware providers, innovative software and business specialists in the European ecosystem.
What are the main goals of the Competence Centre?
The main goal of the Competence Centre is to create key market enablers for precision viticulture solutions. It aims to bridge internationally available expertise and knowledge with hands-on implementation, evolution, certification, and development in the participating countries of Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, and France.
The Centre will support the testing and establishment of innovative technologies that can help producers gain a competitive advantage in the delivered quality and grow sustainably with optimised and meticulous use of natural resources.
Modules
Our training material is also under development: task services will be documented, tutorials and presentations will be developed for the uses and benefits of drones in viticulture.
Participants from European countries will undertake training through the following five modules designed to familiarise them with the use of drones and their potential applications in smart viticulture technologies.
-
Common problems and smart technologies in Viticulture (Agricultural University of Athens, AUA)
-
Cameras, lenses and sensors (Hellenic Drones)
-
Practical Guide on the use of drones in Viticulture (ISCTE)
-
Data processing and portal (WaltR)
-
Financing opportunities (Future Needs)
